BEDFORD, Mass.ย (February 16, 2021) Celera Motion, a leader in precision motion component and sub-system solutions and a business unit of Novanta Corporation announces the addition of Capitan Series to their line of premium performance Ingenia servo drives.
Theย Capitan Seriesย uses the most advanced transistor technology available and delivers the highest power density in the smallest profile possible. Communications latency is optimized to maximize system responsiveness. Standby power consumption is reduced to minimize heat generation and firmware architecture is designed to accommodate PWM frequencies up to 200 kHz with maximum bus voltage utilization, enabling low inductance motor control. Communication options include EtherCAT, CANopen and SPI.
The result is a series of servo drives that delivers maximum performance, efficiency and effectiveness in even the most demanding applications including: surgical robots, exoskeletons, gimbals, robotic joints, flat actuators, end-effectors and haptics.
โRobotics is a very competitive market, evolving rapidly, and requiring best-in-class servo drive technology. Application-focused servo drives like Capitan, where we have included features specifically required for those market segments, dramatically help engineers to accelerate their designs, be more competitive and keep the focus on their core business.โย ย said Marc Vila, Business Director for Ingenia Servo Drives at Celera Motion.
Designed with top-notch technology some of the key benefits of the Capitan Servo Drive Series include:
Small and powerful
The Captain Series servo drives are ultra-compact and lightweight. Capitan weighs only 18 g. Designed with the most advanced transistor technology in the world โ Capitan is the smallest and most powerful servo drive in the world.
Easy to integrate with multiple options
The Capitan drive footprint is minimized and comes with an extremely low profile which enables an easy integration for multiple applications including; compact robot joints, flat actuators, end-effectors, surgical robots, exoskeletons, gimbals and haptic applications.
Capitan series include a ready-to-use version (XCR) that enables quick install and system commissioning. The pluggable module versions (NET and CORE) allow easy integration into a carrier board.
Optimized servo performance
Capitan sets a new standard for servo drive power management. State-of-the-art power control and a standby power consumption down to 1.12 W combine to deliver up 99% efficiency. Fast current and servo loops combined with PWM frequencies up to 200 kHz offer best in class performance.
Multiple Communication Options
Demanding multi-axis applications are supported by EtherCAT, CANopen or SPI communication protocols. Capitan supports EtherCAT with a bus latency down to 2 cycles as well as CANopen and hi-speed SPI bus communication with command update rates up to 20 kHz. This improves the cost-efficiency of embedding multiple axis into a single PCB.
Safe and efficient
Using state-of-the-art power control, Capitan sets new efficiency standards for low heat dissipation โ achieving up to 99%. Capitan has been designed to meet industrial functional safety standards, so safety is ensured at all the time. Capitan integrates STO inputs rated to SIL-3 PLe.
The Capitan Series is available in three models: XCR, NET and CORE.
